Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration. Thus, the boats/yachts which remain in water for longer times and when are dry-docked for maintenance undergo ‘osmosis’ problem. The water flows from low solute level to high solute level through the gel-coat of the boat forming bubble-like swells in the areas under water. The method of sandblasting is used to treat osmosis.
